Costa Rica is becoming well known for sustainable tourism and the 125 room Hotel Park Inn in the province of San José is supporting that initiative with the recognition as the nation’s first certified Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED) Gold building and the second hotel to receive this recognition in Central America in the new construction category.
The $15 million Park Inn included many energy and water savings solutions such as the installation of 52 solar panels providing for over 30% of building’s energy and a Greyter Water System that collects and treats water from the hotel’s showers and bathtubs so that it can be reused for flushing toilets, irrigating the roof top garden and for cleaning the solar hot water collectors. Greyter Water Systems Central American partner Swissol oversaw the commissioning and installation of the system. “Greyter’s solution ties in well with the goals of hotels and resorts around the world looking to reduce their consumption of water through smart water management”, said Chris Thompson, Greyter’s Chief Technology Officer.
