A major custodian of realty assets, the Department of National Defence

April 18, 2014 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

A major custodian of realty assets, the Department of National Defence (DND) holds a large number of properties across the country to support the Canadian Forces, including over 20,000 buildings, 2 million hectares of land, 5,000 kilometres of roads, and 3,000 kilometres of water, storm, and sewer pipes. The Department of National Defence uses two major assessment tools to determine the adequacy of designs in meeting its green building requirements: LEED Green Building Rating System and the Green Globes Design Eco-Rating Program. Key goals of the Green Globes program are to identify opportunities to save water and reduce waste in the operation of new buildings. DND’s design performance goal is to build to a minimum score of three out of five globes and to a minimum of LEED Silver. As part of this mandate, Greyter Systems’ smart water solution technology was selected to be installed at the new TEME facility in order to reclaim rainwater so that it can be treated and used for flushing toilets and washing vehicles. “The Department of National Defence is doing its part to conserve water by changing how it designs, constructs, and operates its buildings,” said Chris Thompson, Greyter Systems Chief Technology Officer
